What a small word. Yet it has a tremendous impact on just about everything you apply the word to. A simple question that demands so much information in return.
Why would that happen?
Why now?
Why? Why? Why? (As repeated by a 3 year old…)
Why would God let that happen?
There are so many more questions that are so hard to answer. And the word “Why” is almost a pleading question. One which demands an explanation.
I have many friends who are going through different levels of life. Some are celebrating successes. Some are fighting cancer. Some are seeking to find themselves. Some are reaching for purpose. Some are looking for jobs. Some are looking for help with a loved one. Some just want understanding as to why they are going through their situation.
Maybe it’s time to answer a question with a question.
Here’s what I mean.
If you ask yourself, “Why would something like this happen to me?” then ask another question to make you approach it from a different point of view. “How can I turn this into a positive?”. Or “What is the lesson I am to learn here?””. “Is there someone else out there who has gone through the same situation and won?”.
My point is this. We all have times where we doubt and fear the unexplained. Especially when our safety and mortality are in jeopardy.
Whatever it is, you can still find purpose through it and in it.
If you are dealing with abuse, learn to free yourself from it so you that you can teach what you did to help someone else free themselves.
If you are dealing with a life threatening illness, learn how to fight it and use your fight to support others who are going through the same.
If you are overcoming debt, learn how to do it so you can share your story and help with someone else who is worried about it too.
If you are overcoming addiction, learn to do it so that you can share the answers and stories with someone in the same boat.
If you have lost someone in your life, remember the good times and tell your stories of joy to those who have lost recently too.
My heart goes out to those who are scared. I always have a soft spot for someone who goes through the struggles of life and comes out triumphant.
The message I’ve learned through my life is one of Hope. I try to share it as much as possible because I truly care. Hell, odds are I’ve been where you are! So I can relate, ok?
Whatever it is you are going through, learn to use it to benefit someone else.
Sometimes when things get hard in your own life, take your eyes off yourself and cast them on someone else. What you’ve learned in your hard times can be a blessing to those who need you. And helping someone else will help you too.
