About a year ago, we set out on a mission to check out .
We went through a few different ones during our short day trips from Shreveport.
But here’s the one that we absolutely fell in love with.
Enoch’s Stomp in Harleton, TX.
We stopped in on a Sunday afternoon… We ordered a cheese plate and a couple of wine flights.
After spending a lazy afternoon of snacking and sipping, we found a new home away from home. The staff was a lot of fun. The wine was great. We adopted a couple of favorites (people and wines).
Here’s my picks for your visit…
The Meal
You’ve definitely got to try the restaurant and tasting room food.vineyards in East Texas
It’s quite the combination of classical, a little french, a little Italian with a twist of Texas spice.
Every meal we’ve had was outstanding. The service has always been friendly and timed well.
My recommendations: Smothered Steak Crostini and the Queso with Chorizo.
The Wine
My absolute favorite is the Norton.
The Norton is a local grape that strongly compares to the Cabernet. It grows better in this part of the world. It’s been called the “Cabernet of the East” and rightfully so.
It’s earthy and has an oak finish. Right up my alley.
I always enjoy a red wine that is smooth but has that strong oak and tobacco finish.
This one pairs perfectly with a nice steak. Or just a quiet evening of reading.
Candi’s pick? The Sweet Lenoir.
I’m not much of a white wine drinker, but this one is great.
If you are new to the wine experience, Sweet Lenoir is a perfect transition from tea to wine. You will find it beautifully balanced, sweet, but not too sweet; tangy, yet not too tart. The grape, also known as Black Spanish, is rumored to have entered the new world in the mid-1600s by a Spanish friar serving communion in South Texas. Today, the grape has found its way into a variety of wines, particularly many dessert wines.
A staple at Enoch’s Stomp for sure.
Wrapping Up
If you want a great vineyard experience, this is the place I’d recommend in East Texas.
And if you time it right, you might just see us there.
