Well, getting out of the chute in 2010, I had set some very lofty goals for myself.
Here are the categories and a few of the not-too-personal goals I set:
Physical
- Lose weight – 2 lbs per week until April 5, 2010
- Run a 5K by my birthday (May 27, 2010)
- Become a cyclist by the beginning of May 2010
Fiscal
- Restore a savings account by the end of January 2010
- Start paying down non-secured debt and remove debt by December 31, 2010
- Sell our home in Greenwood (Contract by February 28, 2010)
Personal
- Establish “My Design” (Ongoing process with my mentor)
- Establish the weekly blogging habit (effective immediately)
Career
- Establish in current job and exceed annual proposed budgets (Ongoing)
- Establish other methods of income (Ongoing)
Relational
- Become a better husband (ongoing through education and time)
- Become a better father (ongoing through education and time)
Intellectual
- Read 1 non-fiction book per month
- Educate myself each month in something new (preferably in the Arts/Food)
Some of these might seem vague to you. That’s ok. I’m not going to tell you everything that I am up to. Mostly because it’s personal and none of your business.
I mean that in a loving way, of course. 🙂
But I also realize that achieving some of my goals require focus. According to the experts, most resolutions or goals fade by Valentine’s Day. An excellent example would be the attendance level at the gym in March…
I am determined to exceed the norm and accomplish everything I set out to do.
Someone asked me, “Eric, what is going to happen to you when you hit that ‘wall’? What is going to motivate you when it gets hard?”.
That’s what provoked me to write this post.
Here’s where I put Accountability into play.
I am making myself accountable to each of you!
I had nothing on the line until now. All I was risking was a little disappointment on the inside. Now, I risk shame and failure on a world-wide-web scale.
I figured if I put myself on the line, I had more to gain than lose. Increasing the pain level just a bit more on myself would keep me uncomfortable enough to change…
Will it work? You’ll be the judge…
